Orlando is an artistic research project
inspired by Virginia Woolf's Orlando
where transformation happens without explanation

I move fluidly across identities
techniques and materials
letting the work question binaries
not through theory
but through practice

Each portrait begins with a conversation about identity
Then I work alone
writing down fragments of the exchange
making drawings, sketches, collages
shaping the Orlando portrait

These portraits become mixed-media prints
analogue photographs, cyanotypes
or photographic etchings

The people I portray are not simply subjects;
they are participants
Their presence shapes the work
guiding it step by step

Orlando unfolds as a growing series of contemporary Orlandos
a space for shared stories
reflection
and transformation

Virginia Woolf writes
of centuries passing
and a single day unfolding
through the quiet movements of nature.

On the coastline of Jersey
during my residency at Arthouse Jersey
I was drawn to the overlooked
fragments of cuttlefish bones
the patterns etched in cliffs
light shifting across rock and water
as if the landscape itself breathed.

These encounters asked me to slow
to see with patience
to let the world speak
through what is often unnoticed.

Nature entered into a dialogue with me
becoming part of Orlando,
where the land reflects identity,
transformation,
the subtle flow of change.

I gathered the island's fragments
with analogue photography.
Back in Rome
I deconstructed these records
repeating, cutting, layering
cyanotypes, gelatin silver prints, etchings
letting patterns emerge
through colour and repetition
echoing tides, light, and time itself.

In these rhythms, time is both constant and fleeting
folding past into present.

This ongoing process
continues to shape my work today.
